My earliest memory of money was around age 9 or 10. My father worked for a company as a manager and my mother a school teacher. My father told my brother and I that everything in the house was for the family. At the end of his workday, he took change out of his pocket and place it on his dresser at the end of every day. I thought to myself that everything was shared in the house (and that should include money).
One day, I decided to take the money. I didn’t have any reason for using it, I just took it just to have some. My father was a Quality Control Manager, therefore, he noticed big time. He called me into his room and asked me if I had taken money off the dresser in his room. I said “yes.”
I wasn’t yelled at or made to feel guilty or ashamed. My father responded with love and told me that it was time to teach me about money. He taught me what he knew and demonstrated it by example. He showed me how to write checks and handle money responsibly. My mom helped me open a saving account. I learned about saving, financial planning, retirement accounts and investing from my parents.
I graduated from college with a Bachelors degree in Accounting and completed an MBA with a concentration in Finance. Upon graduation, I enjoyed working for one of the top accounting firms in the country.
Marriage and the baby carriage
I got married and had a beautiful little boy. I discovered a martial art called tai chi and how to calm my mind and to cultivate energy. This was a big help since I worked long hours in my demanding career. The company that I worked for shut down and I became a stay-at-home mom. I loved it! There was such freedom in providing the golden childhood that my parents gave to me to my son. However, my marriage did not last long and my money lessons began to show up in our relationship. I did not know how to be in partnership around money in my marriage. I didn’t know how to work in partnership to create balanced solutions. There were hidden beliefs that seemed to appear when a major money decision needed to be made and I was completely unaware of them. I became a single mom with a significant amount of debt.
That’s when I searched for answers and found money coaching. I learned about hidden beliefs that had absolutely nothing to do with money. It related to a core belief that was showing up in my money behaviors. Within two years, I had a new job and paid off my unsecured debt. My income went from zero to 5 figures and shortly thereafter, skyrocketed to 6 figures. On top of all that, I met the man of my dreams and we have the cutest little girl.
I do this work to inspire moms to break through their hidden money beliefs to create the life they desire. I am passionate about seeing more money in the hands of moms who will use it to make the world a better place.
I enjoy expressing my authentic self and I am continually looking for ways to serve and grow in all areas of my life.

Dena has worked in the public & private accounting and financial industries for 20 years. She is a Certified Money Coach (CMC)® & Certified Professional Career Intuitive Coach. She received her certification from the Money Coaching Institute with the Founder & CEO, Deborah Price. She is also a Certified Career Intuitive with the “I See Your Dream Job” Career Intuitive Coaching Certification founded by Sue Frederick.
She also completed the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) Core Training program. CTI is the leader in training coaches in the industry worldwide. She has an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Wilberforce University and an MBA in Finance from Clark Atlanta University.
